Certainly a step up from “Thursday”, The Weeknd’s “Echoes of Silence” rounds out a spectacular 2011.

Free instrumental mixtape from The Weeknd’s producer Dropxlife. Very chill lounge and hip hop beats.
Do COOLRUNNINGS qualify as an up-and=coming act? Their earlier material was pretty pedestrian, but “Rusk” may point the way to bigger and better things. As it stands the track is a psychedelic pastiche complete with a driving Paul McCartney bass line and buzzing fuzzed out guitars.
For fans of Tame Impala or Sleepy Sun.
You can buy the single from the band’s bandcamp page or download the track directly from Insound through the end of the week.
Who doesn’t love David Lynch, really? While this is Lynch’s first release as a solo artist, he’s been pursuing music since the score for Eraserhead. He was one of the primary collaborators on Julee Cruise’s “Floating into the Night”, the unofficial soundtrack to Twin Peaks and a better-than-curio album that split the difference between trip hop, ethereal pop and rockabilly.
Crazy Clown Time is not in the same league, quite frankly, but it’s more identifiable as a David Lynch project. The title track is free from http://www.davidlynch.com
Flying Lotus collaborator Gonjasufi released the “Ninth Inning EP” for free. Though I can’t find an “official link” you can grab it from: http://soundcloud.com/hydroshare-tv
Fans of the collaboration on Lotus’s “Los Angeles” LP will not be disappointed. The above collaboration with indie rapper Blu is my favorite.
Shayla Smith presents a solid cover of the Bjork staple. Gets a bit full throated toward the end, but that’s a minor quibble.
Cass McCombs’ “Humor Risk” was released Nov 8th. In a typical blink and you’ll miss it cheap promotion, Amazon has the album on sale for $3.99

While on Tycho, Insound’s offering their “A Walk” as a free mp3 of the week.

Can it be called ambient when there’s a bassline? Nevertheless, Tycho’s first single from forthcoming full length “Dive” (Nov. 15th) is a pleasant enough way to spend five odd minutes.

Certainly some of the most lively sample selections you’ll find in a hip hop release, Lushlife released “No More Golden Days” for free on their bandcamp page. There seems to be some overlap with their “Cassette City” album, but why not?
Check out the above track, Meridian Sound pt 3 with it’s central Pet Sounds sample and download the full album at: http://lushlifemedia.bandcamp.com/
